2026 Culinary Arts

1. One entry per person in each section.
2. Any containers or bottled goods will be opened by the Judge.
3. Exhibits should be on a disposable plate, entry tag attached to the plate and in a clear plastic bag with ziploc or twist tie closing.
4. Multiple items are to be from the same recipe (eg cookies, muffins, tarts etc)
5. All exhibits must be the produce of the exhibitor, made ‘from scratch’ with no mixes.

Culinary Tips and Hints From Home Craft Judging Standards for Ontario Fair

• Squares and cakes : squares should be clean cut with no outside edges
• Bread: Rolls are individual, buns are baked connected

Class 25 Baking

Prize Money: $10, $8, $6

Bread and Yeast Products (No Bread Machines)

1. Loaf of Yeast Bread – any kind of flour, labelled
2. Three Yeast Rolls – any kind of flour, labelled
3. Loaf of Sourdough Bread

Sweet Loaf, Biscuits and Muffins

4. Banana Bread – half loaf
5. Three Tea Biscuits – 2-3 inch diameter
6. Three Rhubarb Muffins – full size, no paper liner

Cakes and Squares

7. Three Chocolate Brownies – 1.5 inch square
8. Three Decorated Cupcakes – any flavour, labelled
9. Three pieces Carrot Cake – single layer, iced, 1.5” – 2” square

10. Three pieces Maple Fudge – 1 inch square

Cookies

11. Three Maple Shortbread Cookies – 1 -2 inch diameter

12. Three Oatmeal Cookies – rolled or drop, 1.5- 2 inch diameter
12. Three Decorated Cookies – labelled, any theme

CLASS 26 Jams, Jellies & Sauces

Prize Money: $10, $8, $6

All containers must be glass pint (500 ml) or 1/2 pint (250 ml) jars, sealed with new lids. Tags to be tied on without decorations or coloured ribbons. Containers will be opened for judging.

Judging Standard – 25% General Appearance, 25% Texture and 50% Flavour and Aroma

1. Strawberry Jam – labelled
2. Rhubarb Preserve – labelled
3. Salsa – any kind, labelled (please indicate if mild or hot)

CLASS 27 ONTARIO ASSOCIATION of AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES (OAAS)

1. OAAS Butter Tart Competition

Prize Money: 1st $10, 2nd $8, 3rd $6

1. A total of four (4) tarts to be shown at Fair level.
2. Tarts must be full size tarts (not mini or bite size) and must not contain fruit or nuts ( ie no raisins, no pecans).
3. First prize exhibitor qualifies to enter District Competition in the Fall of 2025. District winner qualifies to enter OAAS Competition in February 2026. Details will be provided to winner.

5. Judging Standard – 20% General Appearance, 40% Crust and 40% Filling.

2. OAAS Junior Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition

Prize Money: 1st $10, 2nd $8, 3rd $6

1. Contest is open to all youth up to age 15 years.
2. Four (4) cookies to be displayed on a plate in a bag and tagged.
3. Plain chocolate chip cookies, with no nuts, must be no larger than 2.5″ (6.5cm) and no smaller than 2″ (5cm).
4. First prize exhibitor qualifies to enter District Competition in the Fall of 2025. District winner qualifies to enter OAAS Competition in February 2026. Details will be provided to winner.
